Five More Amazing Facts About
Coffee
If you read this title and felt a smile on your face, then you are in good company. The world is in love with coffee and has been for centuries, ever since the first Ethiopian goat-herd tasted the bitter yet energetic coffee bean on the plains of Africa long ago. Since then, coffee has spread like wildfire across the globe and has invaded a million kitchens, offices, and restaurants all over the world. Even though coffee is enormously popular, from the most basic black brew to the most high-end gourmet coffee, many people are not very knowledgeable about this beverage. Well, fear not. This article will give you five more amazing facts about coffee that are sure to entertain you as you sip away at your cup of joe.
1. Coffee : No calories. None. Zip. Nada.
Believe it or not, coffee is a zero-calorie drink. This means that you will not gain weight by drinking coffee, even if it is gourmet coffee – provided you do not load it down with sugar, creamer, or milk. Still, knowing that you can drink coffee without gaining weight is pretty nice, to be sure.
2. Coffee: A South American Treat
Most of the world’s coffee comes from South America, especially from Brazil and Colombia. This is because the South American climate in these two countries is perfect for coffee – lots of sunshine and warm growing seasons with plenty of rain. The coffee beans on these huge plantations thrive in this kind of climate, which is why they are some of the most delicious coffee beans in the world.
3. Time to celebrate!
Coffee is so popular, there are actually holidays around the world to celebrate it! In Ireland, for example, coffee is celebrated on September 19th. One week before that, on September 12th, coffee is heralded in the streets in Costa Rica. And “Coffee Day” in Japan is celebrated not too much later, on October 1st. What other beverage can claim that?
4. Coffee – A late bloomer
Coffee may seem like a commodity that is readily accessible, with gourmet coffee beans available on our supermarket shelves whenever we need them. But coffee actually takes quite a while grow. On average, a coffee tree will take five years to reach maturity. After it reaches its full growth, each tree will result in about two pounds of coffee beans – which will give you anywhere from 35 to 40 normal cups of coffee.
5. A black green thumb
Believe it or not, coffee can actually help you grow other plants. If you have a plant that is in need of a boost, just take some cold coffee and pour it into the soil. You can even take old coffee grounds, mix it in with the soil, and give your plant a boost. This may sound too good to be true, but the next time your plant starts to wilt, give it a shot.
As you can see, coffee is an amazing product that has many amazing properties. You do not have to drink the most expensive gourmet coffee brewed from the highest-quality gourmet coffee beans to enjoy it, either. All it takes is the right ingredients, a nice, comfortable location, and a hot, steaming cup of coffee. Happy drinking!
